Madrone
Underside relief grooves and other design details of our tongue and groove permit normal movement and reduce squeaking in the finished floor. Sticking to strict tolerances in milling results in a precise fit on sides and ends of our planks. Our bundles contain long average lengths, creating a rich look of continuity in the finished floor.
Madrone is a fine-grained wood prized by furniture builders. It is little known outside its region (Oregon and California). It is a very durable wood, comparable in density to White Oak. Its coloration ranges from cream to salmon to dark reddish-brown.
All the Madrone flooring we run comes from mills that are part of the “Healthy Forests, Healthy Communities Partnership,” an organization of wood manufacturers, rural leaders, and community groups dedicated to forest restoration and community vitality.
In our Madera grade, Madrone will contain color variation, numerous knots (both sound and open) up to 2” in diameter, holes up to ½” in diameter, some cracks, along with other occasional character marks. Lengths of planks vary from 1’ to 10’, with an average of about 5’. Madera grade Madrone flooring creates an old world feel, rich in variations of grain and color.
